Bobby Valentine has a sandpaper-like personality that doesn't work very well in today's MLB. |
I don’t
want to sound like a braggadocios jackass, (I guess it just comes naturally)
but I told MLB baseball fans - and
Boston Red Sox management – that they really dropped the ball in a big way by
hiring hard-nosed (unlikable) manager Bobby Valentine to replace beloved
skipper Terry Francona.
Now, it
appears as though Bobby V’s time in Beantown may be coming to an end just after
the close of the 2012 regular season, mostly because Valentine still has a way
of ticking off people – even when he’s not trying to intentionally.
Reports
today indicate that at least a dozen (that’s all?) Boston Red Sox players met
with team ownership in July to express their desire to see Bobby V get the ax
as soon as possible.
Personally,
I never saw the sense in Boston ’s hiring of Valentine in the first
place ad nor do I see it now. When you have a bunch of veteran players that
clearly need a calming influence, why bring in a guy whose career calling card
has been screaming and making inflammatory comments to and about, his own
players?
Valentine
was a horrible fit for the Bosox from the beginning and today’s it’s clearer
than ever that he has to go. Now, I honestly can say he’s not responsible for Boston ’s mediocre play this season, no
that still falls on the players in my estimation.
However,
when guys don’t even want to take the field to play because of an overly
aggressive (borderline nuts) manager, then that is part of the problem – and
the reason Bobby Valentine has to go, whether right or wrong!
