Could Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton reach the coveted 60-home run mark? |
Texas
Rangers sweet-swinging outfielder Josh Hamilton bashed his 20th home run of the
season on Saturday in just the Rangers' 47th game to help him become the fastest
major leaguer to hit 20 long balls since Albert Pujols pulled off the feat
back in 2006. Hamilton is also the fastest American Leaguer
to hit a ‘dub’ since Ken Griffey Jr. back in 1997.
Now, while
everyone knows that Hamilton has missed a ton of time throughout his career
because of injuries, I’ve got to believe that Hamitlon, arguably the game’s
best hitter today, can stay mostly healthy for the remained of the season, he
will almost undoubtedly approach the still-important 60-home run mark (without
being on PEDs).
I know one
thing, after seeing Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa smash Roger Maris’
single-season mark of 61 homers (it’s still stands if you ask me) it sure would
be nice to see a player make a run at the mark without having any
performance-enhancing drugs in their system.
Oh yeah,
it sure would be nice to see if Hamilton can reach the vaunted 60-home run
plateau, but even if he doesn’t, something tells me it’s going to be a fun
ride.
Hamilton is clearly one of baseballs elite. We all know he has had his fair share of problems, this season he is on fire. Being sick right now and sitting may affect his timing just a bit, there is still plenty of baseball left and he could very well reach sixty if he continues to stay strong.
