Veteran WTA star Lisa Raymond has been winning grand slam titles for nearly two decades and appears eaded for another in 2012. |
While American tennis has taken a tumble in recent years while falling behind several other nations in producing grand slam-contending players, one longtime American born and bred player is still making her mark in a huge way on the women’s WTA Tour – all at the grand old age of 38.
That’s right racquet lovers, I’m talking about veteran USA doubles star, Lisa Raymond, who hails Wayne , PA , just about 45 minutes outside my hometown of Philadelphia .
Not only has the amazing Raymond won an incredible 10 grand slam doubles titles (four in mixed doubles), but she’s also played in a whopping 18 grand slam finals in her illustrious career, which began way back in 1993, a time when only one percent of all two-way telecommunication was being carried via the Internet.
Anyway, Raymond teamed with 35-year-old Liezel Huber to win this past weekend’s doubles title

at Indian Wells by beating Sania Mirza of India and Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-2, 6-3 and appears to be well on her way toward possibly winning another grand slam title or two this season.
Raymond and Huber have now won 16 consecutive matches this season – including four consecutive tournament titles at the Paris Indoors, Doha , Dubai and now, Indian Wells.
For her career, Raymond has won a jaw-dropping 78 career WTA doubles titles, putting her sixth on the all-time list – with apparently – no plans of slowing down.
