Deuces Duke … You too Mizzou!

Duke Blue Devils head coach
Mike Krzyzewski.
Okay Eye On Sports March Madness junkies, the second-seeded Duke Blue Devils – and identical No. 2 Missouri Tigers – both got bounced out of the 2012 NCAA Tournament in a big way on Friday.

Thanks to the a fantastic 30-point effort from 6-3 combo guard C.J. McCollum, the two-time Patriot League Player of the Year, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks dominated their higher profiled foes for the majority of the game en route to a solid 75-70 win on Friday. Lehigh was so steady down the stretch that they never trailed after taking the lead for good with 8:21 remaining in the contest.

"They had the best player on the court tonight in McCollum," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He's been their player of the year, and he's really one of the outstanding players in the country. You could see why tonight."

Norfolk State just went crazy against Missouri en route to a narrow 86-84 win over the Tigers. The Spartans shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the field and an unheard of 62.5 percent in the second half alone. Norfolk State made 10 of 19 three-pointers and got a game-high 26 and 14 rebounds from 6-10 center Kyle O’Quinn as he likely played himself into a possible NBA Draft pick, much like McCollum.

"You always go into the game with a sense of confidence," O'Quinn said, "but I never thought it was an upset-alert until that buzzer went off.

Talk about March Madness Eye On Sports fans and this is what college basketball is all about. Thanks Lehigh and Norfolk State, even though you both messed up my bracket in a big way!

By the way, Norfolk State and Lehigh are just the fifth and sixth 15 seeds to knock out a No. 2 seed.

No One Finer than Baylor’s Griner!

Maybe it’s me, but I’m thinking that Baylor’s superstar baller Brittney Griner is so good, she could potentially make it in the NBA. Okay, I know she’d never, ever be able to deal with the strength of today’s low post players, but it would be fun to see for sure.

Either way, it’s crystal clear that Griner has no equal in the women’s game today and that she will undoubtedly go on to the WNBA where she’ll dominate and garner more fame and fortune.

I’ve also got to admit that it’s nice to see the maturation and growth that Griner has shown since punching out some poor girl a year ago for doing some ill hoops s**t to her just over a year ago.

Needless to say, I love me some Brittney Griner – and clearly, there’s no one finer in the women’s game today!

S**t Hitting the Fan in Syracuse!

Now that the s**t’s hitting the fan up in Syracuse New York, thanks to former associate head basketball coach Larry Fine’s alleged sexual molestation investigation, I wonder if longtime head coach Jim Boeheim is going to survive the fallout, even though he’s already gone on record to say he never knew anything about Fine’s alleged actions. All I can say is that we’re living in some crazy ass times when we start losing once-beloved head coaches – due to improper sexual scandals!
