Okay Eye On Sports followers, I know athletically gifted Baylor center Brittney Griner stands a whopping 6-8 while I’m just 5-7, not to mention the fact that I’m married, but I just love me some Brittney Griner!

First and foremost, not only is the best female basketball player in the nation one of the nicest young women you’ll ever meet, but I love Griner’s commitment to dedication and hard work, which has paid off in a big way ever since she set foot on the blossoming Baylor campus as a talented but raw freshman just over three years ago.

On Tuesday night, Griner put on another show in front of a nationally-televised audience when she threw down a sweet right-handed jam that earned her the distinction of being just the second woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game.

Griner finished the night with a solid 25 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field while draining nine of 10 free throws to lead Baylor to a convincing 76-57 win over ninth-seeded Florida.

Former Tennessee Volunteers superstar Candace Parker threw down two jams in a 2006 NCAA tourney game against Army back in 2006. Griner's dunk was her first of the season and sixth of her career. Parker holds the career record with seven jams.

"I think my team got fired up a little bit more than me. I got a little bit more fired up, I think, on one of the blocks I had," Griner said. "But it definitely felt good throwing it down."

Griner finished seventh in the country in scoring this season (23.1 ppg) while pulling down 9.2 rebounds per game and blocking an unprecedented 5.1 shots per game (first) and draining a blistering 61.4 percent of her field goal attempts (second).

Height differential – and marriage – notwithstanding, I’m still professing my love for Brittney Griner – even if it is mostly because she’s the No. 1 female basketball player in the game today. 

RG3 Show Going to Next Level!

Okay NFL fans, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is apparently taking his super-talented act to the NFL – and we’re fired up here at Eye on Sports to see RG3 at the next level.

On Tuesday, reports said Griffin III was set to inform Baylor coach Art Briles that he has decided to turn pro. The Heisman Trophy winner will then choose an agent and begin preparations for whatever NFL workouts he will participate in prior to the NFL Draft.

This approaching Sunday is the deadline for underclassmen to formally petition for the NFL draft.

Griffin is projected as a top-10 pick, but I’m going on record to say he should probably be the No.1 overall selection.

Grifin led Baylor to a school record with 10 wins this season, including a record-breaking 67-56 victory over Washington in the Valero Alamo Bowl.

Griffin threw for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and only six interceptions while rushing for an additional 699 yards and 10 more touchdowns.

Oh, Say Can You See? - It’s RG3!

For pretty much two years now, it’s been generally assumed that Stanford standout quarterback Andrew Luck would be taken with the No.1 overall draft pick, but not any more Eye on Sports followers.

2011 was the ‘Year of RG3’ and now, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from Baylor stands poised to leapfrog Luck to become the Indianapolis Colts’ choice

as the No. 1 overall draft pick.

Griffin's father, Robert Griffin II, told the media on Saturday night that it's a matter of when, not if his so will announce his decision to go pro rather than going back to Baylor for his senior season.

"I met with my son (Friday) and his schedule is pretty much he will attend the Sugar Bowl here in New Orleans, then next weekend he will meet with five agents and select the right agent to represent him and plan a good pre-draft process," Griffin II said. "After that he will sit down with three of his coaches at Baylor on Wednesday or Thursday (Jan. 11 or 12) and make it official."

Griffin III already obtained his bachelor's degree in political science in December 2010 and is just 12 credits short of his master’s degree. Baylor beat Washington 67-56 on Thursday in the Valero Alamo Bowl to finish the season with a fine 10-3 record.

Reports say the Indianapolis Colts have spent significant time checking out Griffin on tape and in person and are very high on the athletic superstar signal-caller.

My personal feeling is that Luck is more ready to play in the NFL right now, but Griffin has the bigger upside with his far superior athleticism and equally impressive arm strength. Indianapolis should nab RG3 with the No. 1 overall pick, let Peyton Manning play out his career and then hand the keys to the franchise to Griffin in two seasons!

No One Finer than Baylor’s Griner!

Maybe it’s me, but I’m thinking that Baylor’s superstar baller Brittney Griner is so good, she could potentially make it in the NBA. Okay, I know she’d never, ever be able to deal with the strength of today’s low post players, but it would be fun to see for sure.

Either way, it’s crystal clear that Griner has no equal in the women’s game today and that she will undoubtedly go on to the WNBA where she’ll dominate and garner more fame and fortune.

I’ve also got to admit that it’s nice to see the maturation and growth that Griner has shown since punching out some poor girl a year ago for doing some ill hoops s**t to her just over a year ago.

Needless to say, I love me some Brittney Griner – and clearly, there’s no one finer in the women’s game today!

No One Finer than Brittney Griner!

When I first saw a YouTube clip of Baylor junior center Brittney Griner dunking a basketball as a high school senior four years ago, I knew Griner wasn’t just some tall stiff that possessed a bunch of height and no coordination whatsoever.

I knew the first time I saw Griner dribbling like a point guard that she had some serious skill and a chance to go down as one of the game’s all-time greats.

Fast forward four years and Griner, now a 6-8 junior at Baylor University, has her team poised to win the national championship as the clear-cut No. 1 team in the nation.

"In my opinion, she's the best player in the college game today," Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey said of Griner. "She's our leader, but she has great players around her who make her go."

Griner is averaging a career-high 24.4 points per game this season to go along with a whopping 11.8 rebounds and 5.2 blocked shots per game, averages that almost mirror her career averages at Baylor.

Griner was the lone college player on the USA Basketball national team that went on its European tour this summer and now, the gifted junior is looking better than ever.

"The international experience will help her game," Mulkey said. "She's more mature and more polished."
