I know the San Antonio Spurs fell apart in last season’s playoffs loss to the hungry Memphis Grizzlies despite earning the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, but I don’t think that’s going to be the case this season Nuthin’ But Net followers.
Yes, the team’s trio of stars, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony arker are all agining, but the fact of the matter is that the Spurs are likely the deepest team in the league with at least one backup at every position that is capable of playing starter-like minutes – and holding their own.
To prove my point, just think Duncan is fourth on the team in scoring, averaging just 9.0 points per game, behind Ginobili, the blossoming DeJuan Blair, Tony Parker and Richard Jefferson.
The Spurs have high-quality backups in young reserve players James Anderson, Tiago Splitter and first round draft pick Kawhi Leonard. Call me crazy, but this time around, ‘m thinking the Spurs are going to give some Western Conference teams absolute fits once the postseason rolls around.
