Okay, Eye On Sports MLB baseball followers, while you may have heard that the Texas Rangers signed Japanese sensation Yu Darvish to a six-year deal worth $60 million just prior to Wednesday's 4:00 PM CT deadline, there may be a few things about Darvish that you may not know if you have never seen him pitch.
Simply put, the Rangers are getting a pitcher that I can almost guarantee will challenge for the AL Cy Young on a perennial basis, beginning as early as next season if you ask me.
The 25-year-old Darvish is the most impressive pitcher I have seen in quite a long time and his career numbers categorically back that up, even though some American MLB ‘purists’ will try to lessen his greatness for playing in what they believe is an inferior league.
Darvish went 18-6 last season in Japan with a league-best 1.44 ERA and 276 strikeouts while walking just 36 batters in 232 innings.
The 220-pound hurler also pitched in the 2009 World Baseball Classic and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. For his career, Darvish has compiled a jaw-dropping 93-38 record with a 1.99 ERA.
Trust me baseball lovers, Yu Darvish is definitely the real deal – and now it looks like the Rangers are well on their way to making another strong run toward reaching the World Series for the third consecutive season.
