Henderson Pulls Off Stunner!

New UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson.

Eye OnSports is giving big ups to new UFC lightweight Ben Henderson this morning after Henderson beat reigning champion Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision in their UFC 144 showdown at Saitama Super Arena in Japan on Saturday night.

The former WEC lightweight champion man-handled the smaller Edgar in a matchup that should clearly set the pair up for an immediate rematch at some point in the very near future.

Henderson used his vast array of powerful kicks to beat the multi-faceted Edgar in  battle that many believe Edgar should have won as the reigning champion.

"I wanted to use my size to my advantage," Henderson said. "Making weight is really (a struggle) for me ... so I want to make sure my opponents feel that pain when we have 25 minutes inside this octagon."

In addition to Henderson’s big win, explosive light heavyweight Ryan Bader beat the wildly popular

Ryan Bader survived a frightening fall onto his neck to win every round over Japanese favorite Quinton "Rampage" Jackson also, via unanimous decision, in the co-main event of the UFC's first show in Japan since 2000.

Jackson however, nearly put Bader out of commission with a freakish body slam in the second round in which Bader landed on his head and neck. Bader bounced back quickly to mostly dominate the former UFC light heavyweight champion.

"Beating Rampage here in Japan is an amazing experience, an amazing feeling," Bader said. "I was rocked a little bit there, but I came back to my feet, and my arm is fine."

Jackson has lost three of his last five fights, and hasn't stopped an opponent since December 2008.

What are your thoughts on the Edgar-Henderson fight? Should this pair square off in an immediate rematch? Sound off in the comments section and have a great sports-filled day!

‘Scary’ Cyborg Stripped!

Maybe it’s me, but something’s definitely wrong when a sports-loving dude, like me looks at a female MMA fighter – and actually gets scared!

First of all people – stop laughing!

Second …. If you’ve ever seen Cristiane Justino Santos, the 26-year-old Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion, better known as “Cyborg,” then you know she’s one scary looking dude … er, chick!

Anyway, Cyborg apparently is on the ‘juice’ after testing positive for the anabolic steroid Stanazolol, also known as Winstrol, on Dec. 16, the day before she knocked out Japan’s Hiroko Yamanaka, the No. 1 title contender, in an astonishing 16 seconds.

Now, the California State Athletic Commission is pissed and they’re not taking any crap – even from Cyborg. On Friday, the commission overturned Cyborg’s win and ruled it a no contest.

“Our primary concern is for the health and safety of fighters,” CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd said in a press release sent out on Friday.

“Anabolic agents and other banned substances put not only the users of those agents at risk, but their opponents as well. The commission simply will not tolerate their use.”

The press release said the commission received Cyborg’s test results on Dec. 23 from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) lab at UCLA.

According to UFC president Dana White, Santos has been stripped of her championship.

Now, maybe it’s me, but I’d be really scared if I were going to be the next woman in the ring with a pissed off Cyborg.

Jon 'Bones' Jones is The World’s Greatest Athlete!

Okay sports fans, I don’t care if you love the UFC or hate the violence of it all (I love it), I’m going on record right now to say that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is my pick for the best athlete on the face of the planet today.

Jones was obscenely dominant in 2011 in recording the greatest one-year campaign of any mixed martial arts fighter ever and clearly is so gifted athletically that I believe he’d succeed in any sport he chose to play.

Just because he’s not quite the household name that LeBron James is (or his momma for that matter) doesn’t mean he’s any less of an athlete.

As a matter of fact, I’m taking all feedback and comments on just which athlete you believe is better than Jones, because I just don’t see anyone that can lay stake to that claim besides Jon ‘Bones’ Jones right now.

Must See TV – Jon ‘Bones’ Jones

If you’re not a mixed martial arts fan, then now this … if you’ve never seen UFC light heavyweight Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. I’ve already gone on record to tell countless readers and listeners that the athletic Jones is arguably the best athlete on the face of the planet right now.
Jones, is so freakishly agile, flexible and nimble, I swear he could succeed at any sport he chooses to play. Jones will take on Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 on Dec. 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Silva-Henderson The Fight to See?

Yo MMA fans, I correctly predicted the Dan Henderson win over Mauricio Shogun Rua last week and now I’m going on record to say that the next fight I want to see is Henderson against Anderson Silva, provided Silva beats the loud-mouthed Chael Sonnen when the pair meet at some point in early 2012.
Henderson will likely face the winner of the upcoming Jon ‘Bones’ Jones Lyoto Machida fight, (Jones will win, duh) and that is undoubtedly going to be a very attractive fight for the UFC and its MMA fans everywhere.

However, I think Henderson deserves a shot at Silva and I’m going to say that he could very well beat both, the gifted up-and-coming Jones or the legendary Silva.

Henderson has been so good in his last handful of fights it looks like he’s aging backwards!

Faber-Cruz III Approaching?

Okay MMA fanatics, admit it, you want to see Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz got at it for the third time in their careers after splitting the first two meetings in epic fashion.

The gifted bantamweights are clearly head and shoulders above anyone in their weight class and have offered non-stop action in their two bouts with their two distinct fighting styles.

Hell, when these two meet up, the fights are so exciting, maybe Dana White should consider pairing them once a year!
