Madness in Miami … Flynn should be in, not Smith!

Sure, I’m the biggest Miami Dolphins fan alive (yeah, I know they’re only two of us in the whole country) but I’ve to call things like I see it – and from where I’m sitting – I’ve got to say the Miami Dolphins dropped the ball in a big way in failing to sign quarterback Matt Flynn – all while wasting their time with mediocre veteran signal-caller Alex Smith.

Instead of going after Flynn – the top free agent quarterback with the most potential (outside of Peyton Manning people) – the Fins foolishly spent a whopping five hours talking with Smith who has proven to be mediocre at best, despite posting the best season of his career this past season.

Well, Flynn met with the Dolphins on Saturday before leaving without an offer – and then signing a $26 million dollar deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

The Dolphins dropped the ball in such a big way here NFL fanatics that I believe it could now set the franchise back at least another couple of seasons at the very least.

Alex Smith’s Now A Keeper!

Whether you like him or not, it says right here at Eye On Sports that San Francisco 49ers veteran quarterback Alex Smith is now a ‘keeper’ for the Niners heading into next season! That’s right gridiron lovers, after coming into the season as an uncertainty in Jim Harbaugh’s first season.

Smith finished ninth in the league in passing during the regular season, while completing a very nice 61.3 percent of his passes for 3,144 yards with 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions. The funny part is that, even in his seventh season – I’m thinking Smith can still improve next season – and that should be great news to Niners fans everywhere!

No One Finer Than 49ers?

Maybe it’s me Eye On Sports football fans, but after seeing the San Francisco 49ers dismantle the explosive New Orleans Saints in their thrilling 36-32 win over Drew Brees and company in their NFC divisional showdown on Sunday, I’m thinking the Niners can beat whichever teams wins the other NFC Divisional matchup, even the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

Raise your hand if you really thought that San Francisco 49ers inconsistent and oft-embattled quarterback Alex Smith was going to have the best season of his career in Jim Harbaugh’s first season at the helm of the Niners.

Okay, those of you that answered ‘yes’ put your hands down and stop lying!

I’m sorry, but there’s not a person in the world that could have ever thought that Smith would have a better season than Philip Rivers, Jay Cutler, Michael Vick, Matt Casel and Joe Flacco.

The transformation that Smith has gone under in head coach Jim Harbaugh’s first season has been nothing short of astounding. Smith is ranked 10th in the league in passing and has thrown just five interceptions on the season, though he hasn’t thrown the ball quite as much as most of his counterparts.

Still, it’s amazing, but nice to see Alex Smith coming around after years of failures as a former No. 1 overall selection.
