World No. 1 Roger Federer looks like a 25-year-old on court these days! |
I don’t
know who was happier…newly minted 2012 Wimbledon champion Roger Federer or
me…the guy that told millions of tennis fans that Fed had not lost one iota of
any of the qualities that made him a 16-time grand slam champion prior to his
big Wimbly win.
Yes…despite
enduring a two-year slamless drought that saw Federer hoist his last major at
the 2010 Australian Open, I fully believed he was still as good and as talented
as he had been prior to that drought – even if his record at the last nine
majors ended without him taking home the hardware.
Clearly,
Federer has more consistent competition in the form of Novak Djokovic and
Rafael Nadal, not to mention Andy Murray and a list of other elite and
still-blossoming players, but for me, I just don’t see Federer declining
anytime in the near future – and that spells bad news for everyone else on the
ATP Tour.
