Townsend Time!

15-year-old American Taylor Townsend
won the girls'  junior Australian Open
to become the youngest winner since 2006.

While Bethanie Mattek-Sands was the only player on either, the ATP or WTA tours to win a grand slam title at this year’s Australian Open, two other American players did take home some grand slam bling at this year’s Aussies as 15-year-old Taylor Townsend cashed in as the girl’s juniors singles – and doubles winner, along with her partner Gabrielle Andrews.

Townsend (L) and Gabrielle Andrews(R)
won the girls junior doubles
portion of the 2012  Australian Open.
Townsend, the 14th seed on the girl’s side, was competing in just her second junior Grand Slam and became the youngest winner of a junior singles title since her friend Donald Young did it at the same age back in 2006.

Like Young, Townsend is from Chicago and trained with Young’s parents, Donald, Sr., and Alona, in Atlanta.
